Keep your eyebrows looking glam with my foolproof recommendations.
This blog post has been sat in drafts for such a long time! I kept umming and ahhing whether to publish how I do my brows but see and though we’re all in lockdown for the unforeseeable. I thought this would be a good time to share how I maintain them… Considering I haven’t been to a brow bar in about 3/4 years!
Yes, I’ve saved a fair bit not getting my brows done professionally. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had them done in the past, including HD brows. So since I’ve grown them out, re-shaped and tinted them ever since. So if you’re looking for a quick fix whilst you wait for your favourite salon to reopen or just fancy having a go yourself, read on!
If you’re used to getting your brows professionally done, your brows should already be shaped and styled to how you like them. Because it’s been so long since I had HD brows, my shape has changed but after a few months of practice, I feel like I’ve mastered my brow look. There’s plenty of brow products out there from powder, pencil, liquid or mascara. So after digging around the past few years, I’ve listed what I use and what steps I follow below.
Brow Styles & Tint
So with HD brows you normally get them waxed, threaded but I just use tweezers and brow scissors. To shape, I’d recommend using a ruler or pencil. If the beginning of your brows start in the corner of your eye and ends at the other corner – that’s a good start. The arch of your brow should be exactly where your pupil is. So if you put the ruler or pencil on an angle your arch should start directly above. Sorted? Once you’ve plucked and trimmed you’re ready to tint.
All about the colour
Make sure you find the best colour for you. Whether you want to match your hair or want a dramatic look, it’s important that any product you buy looks the same on application. I normally go for mid-medium brown even though I have highlighted hair.
Normally I’d use Eylure’s Dybrow but I’d run out. This retails for about £7 and you get a fair few uses out of it. Everythings in there for you to mix the solution and tint your eyebrows just going around your hairs and begin forming a shape. I also swear by Maybelline’s Tattoo Brow (around £12). A tint that uses a wand for quick application. I leave this on a good 30mins for a deep brown colour. Then as this dries you can easily just peel it off! The texture and colour reminds me of Hena. You get a good week or two with this.
Brow Applications
Powder
The easiest way to fill in your eyebrows is with powder. Use an angled brush to fill in and drag along to keep the shape. This is quick and foolproof. I use Kiss Cosmetic’s Brow Kit and Collection’s Brow Kit in Blonde and Medium Brown. These both retail less than £10 and you’ll find powder lasts forever as you only need a little amount per application. These kits also include a brush, brow gel and/ or tweezers which is great for a travel-friendly option.
Pencils
My favourite brow product for a quick option. You can also draw hairs that can make your brows look thicker than what they are. I use Eylure’s Brow Contour (around ￡4) which includes a highlighter to help define and transform your overall look. I’ve used this for years and it needs the practice to avoid you overfilling and colouring. Another highlighter I love is Benefit’s High Brow (￡19). This has a pink shimmer to it and again a little dust of this on your brow bone adds structure and of course a glow!
Liquid & Gel
Finally, the newer items to the table are liquid and gel products. Another product I’ve used for years is the Freedom Brow Pomade. I did review this and it’s one of my most viewed blog posts! Freedom has been discontinued but Revolution is the closest dupe I’ve got to this for around ￡5. There’s brow mascaras out there to set this look and helps to keep it waterproof. Once I’ve applied my powder, gel, and pencil – I use Benefit’s Gimme Brow to brush through my brow hairs and this leaves a coating to keep everything together. On its own, this creates little brush strokes which can also work for filling in your brows if you want a quick, natural look!
My eyebrow process
Pencil or gel first to create the shape, work around the edges for a streamlined look. Brushstrokes at the beginning of your brow to add thickness. Then fill with powder to add colour and brow mascara to set – and you’re good to go!
