Budapest, you did not disappoint. Scenery, food and nightlife it certainly has it all.
We’ve just come back from the beautiful city and I just have to tell you all about it. If you’ve thought about visiting Budapest or would like to see what to do there, read on! Plus you’ll find out how one lucky reader can win an Adexe watch of their choice.
So we arrived at the Hotel Clark on the Buda side of the city which is classed as the historical part of Budapest. The accommodation didn’t disappoint. The view from our room was breathtaking and we loved the interior. Perfect hotel!
Day 1 – Sightseeing
By 11am it was 30 degrees so we topped up on our sun cream and went exploring. We walked up to the Buda Castle from our hotel which was about 10 minute uphill walk. The place is free to walk around and see the scenic views of the city. You can even get a tram lift up to the top if you wish. We then headed down towards the Fisherman’s Bastion which was in my opinion definitely more pretty – I’m sure you’ll agree. That was about a 5-10 minute walk from the Castle. The views of the Parliament from this side were amazing. There’s plenty of places to eat and drink while you’re up there too – even a Jamie Olivers! After a few hours on the Buda side we walked over the lion bridge and headed into the Pest part of the city.
We decided to go on the Budapest Eye which was around ￡8 each but again the views from the top were worth every penny. It was nice to have a moment to take it all in. Around the eye you’re surrounded by lots of shops and plenty of bars and restaurants. Of course with it being such a gorgeous first day we headed of to the High Note Sky Bar and sat for a couple of hours catching the rays with yummy cocktails and gins. This was a little on the pricey side but you’d expect that for a Sky Bar.
On the evening we went along to the Széchenyi Thermal Bath which is also known as the infamous Sparty! Basically a pool party with alcohol, fire breathers and music! We went in there having no idea what to expect but we really enjoyed it! The 40 degrees thermal water was great to chill in and it’s definitely something I’d recommend for a group of friends to go to. We enjoyed it as a couple and there was plenty of couples but mainly hen and stag dos. We got the ticket which included 5 drink vouchers but make sure you take plenty of money with you, the prices were about average for a nightclub. Top tip though be careful when getting a taxi afterwards, the private ones can cost a fortune especially if they know you’ve had a drink!
Day 2: Spa day & Cruise
What better way to spend a Sunday than at another spa with plenty of sunbathing, drinks, a wave machine and even a VIP couple massage. The Gellért Spa has 13 indoor and outdoor pools with some thermal baths. As you can see the views are stunning and we even treat ourselves to an hour full body massage. I’d definitely recommend having a go at the wave machine too its hilarious. Make sure you take your credit card – you can’t pay with cash!
After a few hours at the Gellért Spa we headed back to the hotel and got ready for our Candle lit Cruise. You got a small cocktail on arrival and the cruise lasted an hour to take in all the scenic views. I’d definitely recommend going on the late evening. Our cruise was at 8.45 and the places lit up where breathtaking.
Day 3: Millennium & Cafe
The Millennium memorial is also known as the heroes’ square. Again another monument worth seeing while your on the Pest side. We were so glad the gorgeous weather stayed even on our final day.
We also had chance to visit the stunning New York Cafe and this by far is the best restaurant to visit while you’re in Budapest. As soon as you walk in you feel like you’re in a magical castle. The interior and the ceilings were breathtaking. The food and refreshments won’t break the bank either so if you fancy a classical meal with live music – it’s a must!
