Winter Break At Runa Farm

Escape to the countryside for a well-needed break at Runa Farm

Today I’ll be chatting about a winter break I went on in late 2022. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Runa Farm, it is a new country pub, hotel, and wedding venue in Barnard Castle, Yorkshire, UK.

I was kindly gifted an overnight stay to check out all their gorgeous facilities including their food and drink menu. From start to finish this place was exceptional and I’ll definitely be visiting again! The place itself was easy to find and only about 50 minutes from home. We parked up and headed straight to reception where we were greeted by the rustic interior.

The way I’d describe the place is idyllic and rustic with a luxury feel. Minimal but expensive interior throughout the Restuarant, wedding venue, and of course our accommodation. If you’ve ever been to Ibiza you’ll know what I mean!

Runa Farm Accomondation

We checked in and let me tell you the room was… Just spectacular! It had the perfect balance of a rustic farm with a hatched-looking roof and quirky interior. We had a comfy sofa with a TV, a dressing table, and also a door that opened into a bunk bed. The room was spacious so it worked ideal for a couple but also a small family too. The blue walls were so dreamy, I’d never stayed in a room like it. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s definitely different in the best way possible!

The bathroom though. Wow! Isn’t this just beautifully decorated? 100% shower goals. If only I could pick it all up and place it into my own home…

Outside we had our own private garden area with a very spacious hot tub. It was perfect for two people but you could easily fit four in which accommodated the room. Just look at that view… Surrounded by the County Durham countryside and on the right, you could just make out the animals they have at the farm.

The Smithy Restaurant

After we put our stuff down we headed to the on-site restaurant/ bar. I’ll hold my hands up here I didn’t take many photos as I was too busy enjoying the experience.

I got their specialty Runa cherry drop cocktail and it was delicious! Nowhere near as sweet as it looks – trust me! Oh, and they were very generous with the alcohol. Which is always a bonus! Accompanied by the ‘hen house’ burger which was spiced breaded chicken with Monterrey jack cheese and their secret recipe relish. The homemade chips and burger were delicious. Bob opted for pints of Amstel with the Thai roast chicken open sandwich with seasoned fries. Couldn’t fault the meal at all!

The Smithy had a great relaxed ambiance with a generous cocktail menu and a selection of food. They even use locally grown produce from the kitchen garden and family farm!

Runa Farm Wedding Venue

Did I say they have a wedding venue too? Following in the footsteps of their multi-award-winning sister venues – Newton Hall and Le Petit Chateau. Runa Farm can deliver a full-on festival farm wedding with Mediterranean-style celebrations. Pictured above is their unique chapel and honestly, I’ve not seen anything like it. You won’t find this level of detail anywhere else. open-air vows, or their unique chapel.

The place was lovely and we had an exceptional time from start to finish. We have our wedding venue covered but let me tell you, I was tempted. I wish I’d heard of this place before I went in late 2022. So if you fancy a mini break with beautiful accommodation that’s perfect all year round – give them a try. Or if you’re based in Yorkshire and currently thinking of booking a wedding, go pay a visit!
